Friend,

Our October 15th Commission Meeting was an important one for our community, with dozens of  students, parents, and community members in attendance, and I want to take a moment to share some key updates with you about what we accomplished.

  • Investing in our parks and youth: At our most recent meeting, we approved $5.5 million in funding for our parks and recreation system. This investment will move forward design work for artificial turf fields in multiple districts, expanding recreational opportunities for our families. Dozens of residents came out to support this initiative, showing just how deeply our community values safe and accessible spaces for youth programs.

  • Short Clip of my comments from the last meeting discussing passing the first year funding of $5.5 Million into our city parks

  • Bringing schools and students into the process: This past month, I visited two Pembroke Pines charter schools: the FSU Elementary Charter and Charter West Campus. I spoke with students about city government and their role as future leaders and met with excellent administrators. These conversations reminded me why it’s so important that we continue to invest in our students, teachers and facilities.

  • Expanding engagement with Century Village: Century Village has always been a cornerstone of our community, and I’m proud to have expanded outreach by bringing the Village’s International Key Club into the Southwest Focal Point Community Center for their monthly showcase of different countries and their cultures and cuisines.

These steps — investing in our youth, supporting families, and strengthening engagement with our seniors — are part of how I believe we make Pembroke Pines even stronger.

It’s an honor to serve as your Vice Mayor, and I’ll keep working every day to make sure your voice is heard at City Hall. To watch the full commissioner’s meeting, you can click here.

Stay informed,

– Mike Hernández
