Friend,

On Wednesday evening, the Pembroke Pines City Commission met. You can watch the video of the meeting on Pembroke Pines’ YouTube page or on the City’s website.

I asked the police department to introduce our 2025-26 Pembroke Pines police officers serving as school resource officers. The item and powerpoint presentation can be found by clicking here.

Our Pembroke Pines police officers should be the professionals protecting our students, educators and administrators. Last Fall, I was honored to bring forward the motion that secured full funding for our School Resource Officers, keeping our schools safe.

I also brought forward an item that was unanimously supported by my colleagues for the City of Pembroke Pines to meet the requirements from the Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) to become an Autism Friendly City. The designation would reaffirm our commitment to making sure every resident in our community feels welcome, supported, and valued. I look forward to working with our staff to meet the requirements and bring the designation to fruition.

I believe Pembroke Pines is at its best when each of us can fully participate in all that our city has to offer. From our schools to our parks to our public services, we are building a city where kindness, understanding, and accessibility come first.

A special thank you to CARD, Ysela Heim — a resident of District 4, mother and advocate — and Assistant City Manager Christina Goulding for their partnership, guidance, and dedication. For more information on the Center for Autism and Related Disabilities, please click here.

Thank you,

Mike Hernandez
