Friend,

As your Vice Mayor, I wanted to provide you with some updates on what I’ve been working on for our city, and how you can stay involved in the process.

Here are some updates straight from my desk to yours:

  • Budget approval: On September 3rd, the City Commission approved the City Manager’s proposed budget in the first of two budget meetings, keeping the aggregate millage rate flat for the 11th consecutive year. This $581.4 million budget reflects our community’s priorities—fully funding our excellent police and fire departments, expanding park maintenance across 42 city parks, and strengthening youth and sports programming for families. The second and final budget hearing is Wednesday evening at 6:00 at City Center.

  • New pediatric center: We celebrated the opening of the Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Center in Chapel Trail Plaza. This new facility provides another trusted option for parents to bring their children—up to age 20—for care close to home. It was a privilege to be there at the ribbon cutting with community members and staff.

  • Welcoming new firefighters: We attended the graduation of Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue Recruit Class 69, the largest class in our department’s history. Sixteen new firefighters—two of them military veterans, and several raised right here in our community—are joining the ranks to protect our residents.

And just last night, your Pembroke Pines Commission unanimously approved the 2025-2026 Fire Assessment Fee. Residents will pay just $1.43 more in 2025-26 compared to last year. The fee is a non-ad valorem assessment, meaning it is not based on the taxable value of the property. It is collected through your annual property tax bill. The fee will fund two new fire engines and equipment, and infrastructure upgrades for our top-rated fire-rescue department.
