Neighbors,

At our January 21st Commission Meeting, we took several important actions focused on public safety, our parks, and responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars. All of these, I am proud to have fought for to ensure I save dollars in your pockets, and make our community a better, safer place for us all.

The Commission and I approved three School Resource Officers to serve Somerset Academy campuses, including Somerset’s elementary campus that is located in District 4. This is an effort made possible because of our partnership with our local schools. These officers will help ensure students and staff have a safe, secure learning environment. As your Vice Mayor and Commissioner, and as the father of two students in our local public schools, the safety of our kids and educators will always be a top priority for me.

We also approved the purchase and installation of new playground equipment at four city parks, improving recreational spaces for families across Pembroke Pines.

One of the parks included in this item was Silver Lakes South Park, which serves families in our district. These upgrades will give our children safer, more modern places to play close to home.

Lastly, I raised an important issue about how the City contracts for services. One of our long-standing vendors has provided building department services since 2009, but there has not been a competitive bid for those services in 17 years.

I strongly believe we need to create a culture of competitiveness in the City of Pembroke Pines. Taxpayers fund our government and we have a responsibility to regularly test the market, compare costs, and make sure we’re getting the best possible value for the residents and business owners of Pembroke Pines.

Competitive bidding isn’t about disruption—it’s about transparency, improving service and saving taxpayer dollars wherever we can. I have consistently voted for competitive bidding because I feel strongly it is a best practice for governments to engage in—and the right thing to do for our taxpayers.
